Rally Towels…. Really?
Written by Sadler on November 24, 2009 – 9:14 am -Prior to this Sunday’s Ravens-Steelers game (Nov. 29, 8:20 p.m.), the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour will provide over 71,000 fans with purple and white rally towels as they enter the gates of M&T Bank Stadium.
The Ravens are encouraging fans to wear all purple and waive their rally towel for the nationally-televised Sunday Night Football broadcast.
I’m all for creating a killer environment, but I don’t like this idea. Let’s be original. Let’s not steal someone else’s stupid idea and re-brand it for when that stupid team comes and visits. Do you like this idea?

Well, since the Ravens obviously suffer from Steelers-envy, this is the logical next step.
Seriously, this is one of the the dumbest things I’ve ever heard - take your rival’s “thing,” modify slightly, and make one of your own. Make sure you put the obligaatory charitable cause to try to keep people like me from making fun of it. Who comes up with an idea like this, and worse yet who approved it?
Is this just to rub in the face of the Steelers that whining to the league office about scheduling actually works? We’ll see how many golden towels there are in the supposed sea of white.

I read this last night and was embarrassed. I get the sentiment but just no.

I like it. If you go to a lot of games you
know how obnoxious Steeler fans are and there’s nothing worse than seeing those yellow towels in our stadium. We aren’t trying to make the towels are thing. We are just trying to wash out the Steeler fans.

I’m thinking that the only thing that is worse are the stupid Thunder Stix.
Steelers fans are annoying as crap. I have one who brings his stupid towel to my house. If the Ravens bring and shut them down, who looks stupid? That’s right stupid Steelers fan.
BTW- Are the Steelers Fans becoming the Red Sox Fans of the NFL?

I think it’s a good idea…I’ve always been a fan of rally towels, just not terrible towels. I don’t care what we do as long as we pull out a win.
And Sadler, I think they’ve been the equivalent of Sox fans for a couple years now!
November 24th, 2009 at 11:06 am
@Sadler yes they are. It’s all about the bandwagon fans.

who the crap cares about the stupid towels. The Ravens kick ass. the stadium will be rocking. They suck, well then they will be forced to hear from Steeler Nation. It’s all about the product on the field.

Free swag, fine by me. Not sweating douchebag steeler fans or their queer towels I promise you.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:36 am
The thing that gets me is the notion that the Steelers and that asshat Myron Cope started the idea of waving a towel.
Anyway, it seems like alot of teams are doing it now when they have nationally televised games.
It translates onto TV.
That said, I’d rather not see any towel of any sort in our stadium.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:56 am
Whether Myron Cope or the Steelers created it or not, it’s still their signature “thing” no matter how stupid it looks.
I personally would like Ravens fans to have their own thing like purple camoflauge.

I understand the terrible towel is associated with the Steelers. But I guarantee you almost every yinzer up there and around the country thinks it started there. I was just pointing out that it started long before them.
Oh, the Ravens have the market cornered on purple camo.
I pray to God that doesn’t become what we are known for.
YIKES!

Good luck trying to find bandwagon Steelers fans, it’s not as easy as this comment indicates. 95% of them have connections to Pittsburgh, and have been fans for quite a long time. Sure, a lot of people probably jumped on as fans in the 70s, but at some point don’t you become a true fan and not just a bandwagon fan if you stick around for long enough?
And really, I hope that Steelers fans are only known as obnoxious in Baltimore. Most that I know take it as a matter of pride to treat the other team’s fans with respect and not be a-holes like (most) Yankee or (some) Red Sox fans. Yes, my initial comment above did tread into that territory, but meant to be all in good fun.
By the way, I thought that the Patriots fans were the Red Sox fans of the NFL…?

Baltimore fans suck!!!! You make fun of the terrible towel, yet your are copying the idea. You guys are desperate!! Ravens fans are an embarrassment to the NFL, just like your team.

Gloria we (Ravens and Steeler fans) were having a civil discussion about the Ravens giving out rally towels until you came along. No one made fun of your beloved Terrible Towels.
If you have nothing to add besides your childish flaming, please stay away.
