Game Preview: Ravens D vs. Browns O
Written by jpilson on November 16, 2009 – 2:50 pm -As much as the Ravens offense against the Browns defense seems to be a mismatch, it seems the Ravens defense should have even less problems contending with the Brown offense. The funny thing is this mismatch is caused more by what the Browns cannot do on offense as opposed to what the Ravens can do on defense. While the Ravens have had trouble this year against elite play-makers, this Browns team is devoid of any difference makers on offense even when you throw Brady Quinn back into the equation. Look for the Ravens to have the swagger back and for them to appear to be the ball-hawking, speedy, hit you in the mouth defense tonight against the Browns. Too bad that is more about playing the JV than it is about the Ravens strength.
Against the Run: The Ravens run defense has looked porous in recent weeks. All three units have had break downs that have lead to big plays given up in the run game. Tonight the Ravens will be able to return to form against a sub-standard Browns o-line and running game. Having an unstable QB situation also helps the Ravens in that they do not have to worry too much about shutting down the passing game. The Ravens should also be in a foul mood coming off last week in Cincy and their motivation should more than overcome a well rested Cleveland offense. The Ravens should consider letting Haloti Ngata sit this one out. It is unlikely they will need him to slow the Browns offense, and he needs to be ready for Indy next week. Read more »

Game Preview: Ravens O vs. Browns D
Written by jpilson on November 15, 2009 – 11:59 pm -In week 3 the Cleveland Browns hardly put up a fight. The Ravens had 3 rushing td’s of more than 5 yards where the running back was not touched. Joe Flacco threw for 342 yards, leading the Ravens to 479 yards of total offense in a 34-3 route. Is there any reason to believe the Browns are going to put up much more of a fight this time around? Well a couple of things are going to come into play. Playing in Cleveland in front of the Baltimore hating Browns fans should inspire the Browns D. Also, the Browns should be able to make some adjustments based on what they saw in week 3 and what they have seen the Ravens do in recent weeks. Cleveland also has theadvantage of having over 2 weeks to prepare for this game. They should be rested and well game planned. That said, the Browns still do not rush the passer well, they have little interest in stopping the run and they don’t cover all that well. While I expect more fight out of the Browns, I do not expect the Ravens to have difficulty moving the ball on Monday night. Read more »
